Greater Houston School Finder

Schools drive both quality of life and resale value. Compare ratings, test scores and attendance zones across Katy ISD, Fort Bend ISD, Lamar CISD and every other Greater Houston district.

Look up any Greater Houston school by name, district or address below. Schools drive more buying decisions in Katy, Fulshear and Fort Bend County than any other single factor, and they're also the factor buyers most often get wrong at the point of offer.

Verify the attendance zone for the exact address

This is the single most important thing on this page. Attendance boundaries are redrawn periodically, and in the fastest-growing parts of Katy ISD and Lamar CISD they have been redrawn repeatedly as new campuses open. A listing, a builder's brochure and a third-party school website can all show a zone that was accurate last year and is not accurate now.

Zones also do not follow subdivision lines reliably. Homes on opposite sides of one street can feed different elementary schools, and a community marketed under a school's name may include sections that aren't zoned to it.

Confirm the current zone with the district directly for the specific address, and if a particular campus is the reason you're buying, ask whether any boundary changes are under consideration. Districts publish proposed rezoning well before it takes effect.

What ratings do and don't measure

Texas rates campuses and districts A through F through the Texas Education Agency's accountability system, which weighs student achievement, school progress and how well a campus closes gaps between student groups. It is a real measure built on real testing data.

It is also heavily correlated with the demographics a campus serves, which means a rating tells you a good deal about a school's population and less than people assume about the quality of instruction a specific child would receive. Progress measures — how much students gain in a year — are usually more informative than raw achievement scores for that question.

Third-party ratings sites use their own methods and often lag official data by a year or more. Where a listing and a ratings site disagree, the district and the TEA are the sources that settle it.

The parts nobody thinks about until after closing

New campuses in growing districts frequently open over capacity and use temporary buildings for their first years. That's not necessarily a problem, but it's a fair question to ask before assuming a brand-new school means small classes.

Bus eligibility usually depends on distance from the campus, and a home that looks walkable on a map may sit across an arterial road with no safe crossing. Transportation is worth confirming separately from zoning.

Finally: schools are a resale factor whether or not you have children. Homes zoned to sought-after campuses hold value differently, which makes the zone worth verifying even for buyers it doesn't personally affect.

Questions about Houston-area schools

How do I confirm which school a specific address is zoned to?

Check directly with the school district for that exact address rather than relying on a listing, a builder brochure or a third-party site. Attendance boundaries are redrawn periodically — frequently in fast-growing parts of Katy ISD and Lamar CISD — and secondary sources often reflect a previous year's map.

Can school attendance zones change after I buy a home?

Yes. Districts rezone as new campuses open and enrollment shifts, and buying a home does not lock in its current assignment. If a specific campus is central to your decision, ask the district whether any boundary changes are proposed — rezoning is published in advance of taking effect.

What do the A–F school ratings in Texas actually measure?

The Texas Education Agency's accountability system rates campuses and districts on student achievement, school progress, and how well they close gaps between student groups. Progress measures — how much students gain over a year — often say more about instruction than overall achievement scores, which track closely with the population a campus serves.

Do schools affect home values even for buyers without children?

Yes. Attendance zone is one of the more durable drivers of demand in Katy and Fort Bend County, so it affects resale regardless of whether a given buyer uses the schools. That makes verifying the zone worthwhile for any purchase.
